Clothing is now as critical to golf course strategy as the loft on a driver or the bounce on a sand wedge according to extreme golfer Lindsay Knowlton

Hong Kong (5 February 2010) ¡V A pair of globetrotting golfers have proven that clothing is now as critical to golf course strategy as the loft on a driver or the bounce on a sand wedge. Adventurous amateurs, Lindsay Knowlton and Josh Sullivan, played courses on four continents and under the world's harshest weather conditions to put adidas Golf's industry-leading apparel with COOLMAX® EXTREME PERFORMANCE fabric to the ultimate test.

The project, entitled the "adidas Golf Wear In The World ClimaTech Adventure," was organized by adidas Golf and supported by the Taylor Made Golf Company and COOLMAX® fabric. Locations included the world's hottest course at Alice Springs in Australia; the world's lowest course, Furnace Creek in the USA; the world's highest course, the LaPaz Golf Club in Bolivia; Africa's southern-most golf course at Walker Bay in South Africa; and the world's southern-most 18-hole golf course in Ushuaia, Argentina.

Demonstrating that no location is too exotic or too extreme to overcome with the proper apparel, the two golfers wore a mix of clothing featuring a variety of adidas Golf premium garments made with INVISTA's COOLMAX® fabrics, including ClimaCool®, FORMOTION, ClimaProof® Storm and ClimaLite®.

"The technology behind performance apparel is making golf a sport that can be enjoyed in any season any time of the year, maximizing your body's golf potential in any environment," said adidas Golf adventurer Lindsay Knowlton, who spent 31 days traveling from extreme to even more extreme locations in search of the world's most challenging golf course.

Her comments were echoed by INVISTA Apparel's Global Segment Director for Activewear and Outdoor Apparel, Julien Born.

"The adidas Golf apparel with COOLMAX® EXTREME PERFORMANCE fabric that Lindsay and Josh wore throughout the adventure, and under the most severe circumstances, met the highest COOLMAX® fabric performance levels. It provided them with maximum comfort, moisture management and style," Born said. "The entire project has been a unique opportunity to showcase the entire family of fabrics from the COOLMAX® brand and test them to the limits."

INVISTA's portfolio also includes brands such as COOLMAX® fabric, LYCRA® fiber, THERMOLITE® fabric, freshFX® fabric, CORDURA® fabric, TACTEL® fiber, SUPPLEX® fabric, and the newly launched LYCRA® SPORT fabric.

With the proper apparel, no challenge is too difficult

The most difficult golf environment the duo faced during their adventure was the 8mm snowfall at the Ushuaia Golf Course in Argentina.

"Anyone that is passionate, or crazy enough to hit the links in sub zero temperatures must dress appropriately. Layers are essential to playing in cold weather conditions, and were vital to our experience in Ushuaia," said Knowlton.

"For our cold weather experience we wore ClimaWarm Thermal compression which acted like a second layer of skin and kept our muscles warm. A ClimaLite® Warm Layering Top provided both warmth and breathability, and ClimaProof® Wind/Warm outerwear blocked out the wet snow and wind but still allowed for the athletic movement of the golf swing," she said.

Australia is the driest continent on the planet and home to Alice Springs Golf Club, the hottest golf course in the world. Located in the remote Northern Territory, the lush green course is surrounded by red desert.

"While playing golf in Alice Springs we realized how extremely valuable COOLMAX® EXTREME PERFORMANCE fabric technology is to a golfer. Our ClimaCool® apparel passed its final exam with flying colors allowing us to focus on our game and not the extreme conditions we were playing in," said golfer Josh Sullivan.

Staying focused, playing great

In a sport that has been called 90% mental, concentration and precision is critical. Garments also have to perform, which means offering the benefits of the latest technology without overlooking fashion trends.
"After playing golf in some of the world's warmest climates, including the hottest course on the planet in Alice Springs Australia, we can say without fail that moisture wicking, breathability, weight, and flexibility are the most important elements required from your golf apparel," said Knowlton.

"We were incredibly fortunate to be wearing our adidas Golf ClimaCool® products that feature COOLMAX® EXTREME PERFORMANCE fabric technology so that our focus was not on keeping our bodies cool and comfortable, but rather executing our next golf shot," she added.
